Binding

Coordinator side (Ground)

1. Connect to the OPlink mini Ground module that you are going to use as Coordinator.
2. Go to the OPlink page in the GCS, available on the Configuration tab’s left bar. It is only visible if an OPlink, Revolution or Sparky2 is connected.
3. Set the following recommended settings:

a. 'Max Power' 100mW (or maximum for your country)
b. 'Com Speed' 57600 (or 38400 if you take care about refresh rates)
c. 'Max chan' 250 (75 - USA requires Amateur Radio License)
d. 'Min chan' 0 (53 - USA requires Amateur Radio License)
e. Select the Protocol as OplinkCoordinator.
f.  Select the Link type as Data
g. Click Save, wait a few seconds for the telemetry gadget (the meter at the bottom of the GCS) to calm down.

4. Disconnect / Reconnect your OPlink mini modem, this enables modem and show Device ID. At this point a custom device ID can be defined by user, not auto-generated.

5. Write down the Device ID. You are going to use it later.

6. Disconnect from the coordinating module.

The OPlink Save button will display a green 'tick' when settings are saved, but it can disappear soon after settings are saved. This is normal behavior.


Using custom frequencies

If your country allows only a fraction of the available frequency band to be used, you can adjust the operational OPlink channel range to reflect that.
The GCS indicates minimum and maximum used frequency when you change min and max channels. While operate, the link will do channel hopping within this range.

Both OPlinks must have the same min and max channel pair to bind successfully.

About antennas

Since you set something different than 0 for Max Power setting, the board will transmit.
If USB is connected, the RF module is powered and can transmit.

Be sure you connected the antenna to MMCX connector or RF module can burn. This is not reversible!

This also means a "0" value disables the Oplink and you can safely use the Revolution board without his antenna.

 




Slave side (Vehicle)

1. Connect to the Revo, Sparky2 or OPlink Mini modem that is going to be the connection slave.

2. On the OPlink page in the GCS, set exactly the same Link Type, Max Power, Com Speed, Max chan and Min chan as you did for the ground modem.

3. Select the Protocol as OPLinkReceiver

4. Enter the Device ID that you wrote down from Coordinator into the Coordinator ID text box.

5. Click Save, wait a few seconds for the telemetry gadget (the meter at the bottom of the GCS) to calm down.

6. Disconnect from the slave module. The bind is complete.





 


Troubleshooting

  1. The Firmware revisions in both OPlink modules MUST be the same!
  2. If the OPlink Mini module will not connect to the Revolution (with build-in OPlink module), be sure the bootloader is version 4:
    Go to firmware tab : Disconnect OPlink, hit Rescue button and connect device.
    If bootloader is not up to date, download the latest OPlink Mini bootloader from the Downloads page.
    Follow the procedures listed in "Update Bootloader and Update firmware".
    Be sure you ask for a Upgrade&Erase and wait erase.
    Retest communications link.
  3. Double check settings on both sides, especially baudrate, channel range and CoordinatorID.
  4. Avoid connecting two devices to the same computer, this cause trouble.

 



OPlink configurations

Revolution telemetry


If you followed the binding procedure above, basic telemetry can be achieved by connecting the OPlink modem to the computer




Dual OPlink telemetry

Two OPlink modems can be used.

Like the previous binding procedure the ground modem is set as coordinator and connected to the computer's USB port.

Vehicle's OPlink is connected to one telemetry port from board (FlexiPort or MainPort) using his MainPort.

Please note Tx/Rx wires from cable between OPlink and board are crossed.

Board setup

Set one port to Telemetry and set the telemetry baudrate to the value you want for radio link.

In this example, MainPort set to Telemetry and Telemetry Speed set to 57600

Set the MainPort to Telemetry and Com Speed to 57600 bauds







OPlink as RC Tx module (Revo)







Ground OPlink setup

Ground OPlink is connected to the RC radio using the connector from Tx module or using the PPM signal from trainer port.

Voltage can be up to 2S battery (8.4V)

In this example we only want RC control link so the Control link type is selected.
This means the baudrate is defaulted to 9600bauds and give better range.

FlexiPort is set to PPM




Revolution / Sparky2 setup

Revolution or Sparky2 board no need extra wiring, OPlink modem is already integrated and "wiring" is done internally.

  • Set the Protocol as OPLinkReceiver
  • Select the Link Type as Control.


Next step you can start the Transmitter Wizard after the connection is done.



 



Dual OPlink for Remote control



Ground OPlink setup

Same as above:

  • Set the Protocol as OPLinkCoordinator
  • Set the Link Type as Control
  • FlexiPort is set to PPM



 



OPlink setup (Vehicle)

  • Set the Protocol as OPLinkReceiver
  • Set the Link Type as Control
  • FlexiPort is set to PPM


Slave OPlink + FlexiPort set to PPM means the FlexiPort output the PPM signal.


Connect the OPlink to the board, GND and +5V for power and another wire for PPM signal.

In this example the PPM input is configured as PPM_PIN8+OneShot




 



Telemetry + Remote Control + Bluetooth

This configuration allow a "wireless" setup with remote control and telemetry back to computer.

This need a Bluetooth module already setup for 57600bauds. See how to configure the Bluetooth module in this page.

Ground OPlink setup

Ground OPlink is connected to the RC radio using the connector from Tx module or using the PPM signal from trainer port.

Voltage can be up to 2S battery (8.4V)




  • FlexiPort is set to PPM used for PPM input from Remote controller.
  • MainPort is set as Telemetry for output to bluetooth module.
  • Baudrate at 57600 bauds
  • Ground OPLM protocol is set to OPLinkCoordinator
  • Link type is set to DataAndControl.











Revolution / Sparky2 setup

Revolution or Sparky2 board is set for telemetry at 57600 bauds and only need the Link Type as DataAndcontrol to handle the PPM signal.


  • Set the Protocol as OPLinkReceiver
  • Set the Link Type as DataAndControl
  • ComSpeed set to 57600

Next step you can start the Transmitter Wizard after the connection is done.
